How a Korean Couple Eloped in Porto – How a Korean Couple Eloped in Porto — From the Yeatman to the City Streets

Without Stress , Without a Wedding Script

Sunny and Kim flew from South Korea to Portugal for something most couples spend months planning — an elopement that felt like them. No ceremony, no guests, no timelines. Just a quiet morning at The Yeatman Hotel, followed by an honest and friendly couple shoot through the streets of Porto.

We only had a few hours together, but in that short time, we had lots of fun and share.

They weren’t looking for perfection. They just wanted some pictures to remember their passage through Porto, and the love they felt at that time. And that’s exactly what we went for through the light, the textures, and the "quiet" corners of the city.

A Connection Beyond Culture

Coming from different cultural backgrounds, there’s always a moment of adjustment - especially with couples who are naturally introverted or more reserved, like Sunny & Kim. In South Korean culture, physical affection is often more subtle or hardly exist, at least, expressed in public. I’m the opposite: warm, open, always greeting people with a hug.

But somehow, without words, we connected. Not as a photographer, but as someone they could trust and as a friend. That moment when a couple lets you in - not just into their schedule, but into their emotion — that’s everything.

And that’s when the photos started to feel real.

Analog + Digital = A Portrait of Presence

For this elopement session, I shot a mix of digital color and black & white analog film, using Ilford 3200. There’s something timeless about film — especially when paired with fleeting gestures and city textures.

They were a reflection of presence. No need for a wedding ceremony or fancy decor. Just two souls walking together, in love, in Porto.

Eloping in Portugal — Why It Just Works

Portugal is one of the most intimate places to elope in Europe. Whether you’re planning a traditional wedding or a micro wedding with just the two of you, cities like Porto offer it all: cobbled streets, great light, textures, and raw emotion.

If you’re considering a destination wedding in Portugal, you don’t have to go big to make it meaningful. Sometimes, less is way more.

My Filmmaking Soul, Wong Kar-Wai Vibes

While this session didn’t include video, I often think like a filmmaker when I shoot. One of my biggest influences is Wong Kar-Wai — the way he uses light, color, and silence to tell a story has shaped the way I see couples and their moments. This session had that same bittersweet softness — that tension between stillness and movement.

Thinking of eloping in Portugal?

Whether you’re dreaming of a cinematic elopement in Porto, a wild session in the Douro Valley, or a quiet beach moment in the Algarve, I’m here for it. I’m a Portugal wedding photographer and videographer, but more than that — I’m someone who sees you for who you are, and helps tell your story your way.
