A Destination Wedding in Porto with Scottish Flair
Hayley and Johny’s destination wedding at The Yeatman Hotel in Porto was exactly the kind of day that reminds me why I do this. As a Portugal wedding photographer and videographer, I get to be there for the good stuff — not just the views (although, Porto doesn’t miss), but the energy, the people, and the real, unfiltered moments that make a wedding more than a checklist.
She’s British, he’s Scottish. And together, they brought kilts, laughs, and a whole lot of heart to the city. From the very beginning, you could feel it — this wasn’t about staging a production. It was about being present, soaking in the day, and doing things their way.
We kicked things off in Porto’s old town — one of my favorite places to shoot. Johny and the boys wandered through the streets in full kilt mode, beers in hand, turning heads and making people smile. At some point we hopped on a rabelo boat across the Douro. Just a spontaneous moment — wind, sun, no plan. The best kind of moment, really.
The ceremony itself took place at The Yeatman, high above the city with that iconic view over the rooftops. The kind of setting that doesn’t need much else — but Hayley and Johny’s connection brought it to life. Their vows were personal and raw. As the light dropped over the hills, they stood there with Porto behind them, fully in the moment. You could feel the stillness.
That’s what I chase as a destination wedding videographer — not drama, not perfection. Just the moments that hit you. The real ones.
The reception? Pure good vibes. Laughter, music, a dance floor that didn’t quit. From wild dancing to quiet hugs, everyone was just… there. No distractions. No expectations. Just joy. That’s what makes wedding photography feel like storytelling — it’s not just about how it looked, but how it felt.
One of the moments that stayed with me? Their first dance. The sun had just dipped behind the skyline, fairy lights twinkled overhead, and they just moved — no choreography, no spotlight. Just the two of them, surrounded by people who love them. The kind of scene you don’t need to direct. You just follow the light and hit record.
Later, under the stars, Johny and his mates broke into a Scottish folk song — kilts still on, voices loud, no hesitation. It echoed through the courtyard and into the night. That’s the stuff I live for as a Portugal wedding videographer. Real. Raw. Full of soul.
This wedding wasn’t about trends or Pinterest boards. It was about connection. That’s what matters. That’s what lasts.
If you’re planning a destination wedding in Porto — or anywhere else in Portugal — and you want photos and video that feel like you, let’s talk. No filters. No posing marathons. Just something honest, cinematic, and full of feeling.
Because long after the party ends, that’s what stays.

Hayley & Johny — Porto with soul
They didn’t want perfect.
They wanted them.
He wore a kilt.
They grabbed beers and crossed the Douro on a boat taxi.
It wasn’t about tradition — it was about connection.
About laughing loud, crying quiet, and doing it all in a place that felt like somewhere in between a dream and a dive bar.
This is what it looked like.

The Yeatman isn’t just a stunning venue — it’s also a place I’ve had the chance to come back to. One of those moments was with Stephen Carlé, who shared his own wedding experience in the article “Wedding Perfection in Porto” on Medium.
